Burn the Witches!!!
thank you george w. bush, with your policy on terrorism you have clearly given a free pass to dictators and rouge states all around the world to prosecute anyone who stands between them and ultimate tyranny. how can the international media not even glance at this. last year the government was bombarded with criticism about the way they handled the protesters, this year nothing not even a wimp. than again what can the international community do? how can the international community question this government and in doing so bring out its very own double standard in dealing with issues of terrorism. gayoom has used the one tool that he was sure to get away with. for the international community the word terrorism has as much force as the word "heretic" had in the 16th century. thanks to bush and his neo con cabal. anyways enough bush bashing.
anni the main opposition leader has been charged- "an act to commit terrorism". word on the steet is that, someone gave a statement to the police stating that, anni in one of their conversations, to have said 'he would bring the current government down in 90 days... even if it means by using force' (this is a loose translation). i am no lawyer but does this account for an act to commit terrorism? if so, is it not a grave insult for all those people who are really dying around the world because of real acts of terrorism? secondly the "use of force" does not necessarily have to be physical force. by calling an election in 90 days a government can be forced to step down. anyways everyone in maldives except those delusional idiots who think they own this country knows that this is all a cover-up, a farce to dismantle the only real opposition to the current regime. through the use of its mighty "star force" the government is setting an example to the rest of the nation of what it can do to anyone who stand in its away. anni has yet again become the mannequin on display.
the whole mdp is in disarray, the switching of gasim over to drp (greedy coward), anni's arrest, dismantling of the meeting space of mdp, but most of all the PR war won by drp using the state controlled media and internet. i think anni will be prosecuted and jailed for not less than 3 years which will set him free after the general presidential election. mdp will start to see new faces at its very forefront. i do not think mdp will die as the government is hoping it would. I think mdp will survive but its very survival depends on the new faces that we will see in it. Although i bash the current administration, i do not support mdp either, simply because of the people at this party's top level. i am hoping that this whole fiasco will shake up the very center of mdp forcing them to give up its hidden agendas and root out those people with personal ulterior motives. mdp should start to seriously bank on the support it garnared from the most southern atoll- addu. looks like the mp's from this powerfull community are either asleep or bought out by the current government. mdp should hire a serious PR farm to bring its image back and revive its fight against tyranny.
what about the illegal gatherings and the violence and the mob and the fire and fear.. this is what the government is banking on to destroy the image of not only mdp but any opposition. unfortunately maldivians are more educated and literate (thanks to the current administration which deserves credit for such higher literacy rate in this country) to really fall for this. we all know that it is suicide for mdp or any opposition movement to even think of using violence to bring down an elected government. the people who created and propagated violence i will call the "violent third force" . they are neither government nor opposition.. here are some interesting links that we can reflect on and take notes about third forces

politics aside, i truly hope that anni walks free for the sake of humanity, freedom and justice. the more the government flexes it muscle the more sympathetic i become towards mdp. who knows maybe the whole fear and intimidation tactic might backfire on the government and mdp might just win the hearts and mind of this nation through sympathy.
